FRAGRANT MILKWEED ON SUMMER’S FIRST DAY
The summer solstice morn
Sun-warmed my neck
A green-girded path
Stretched out ahead
From where,
Below the hill
Sou-westerly wafted warm
To carry
Faint-scented nectar
On this damp-morning air
Among Dogbane and Horse weed high
There, drooping Milkweed-bloomed
Tiny five-part flowers
Nectar full
Each purple hooded
From where
The only sound
Bombus buzzing
In the warm summer air.
