MCCAIN BREAKS RULE 19--UNHINGED?

JOHN MCCAIN BREAKS SENATE RULE 19--NOTHING HAPPENS

Senator McCain broke Rule19 of the US Senate yesterday (March 2017) but no one seems to care. McCain, has passed the four-score mark and is showing signs of wear and tear, and old-age irritability. He spent more than five very tough years in a Hanoi prison during the Vietnam War---that must have taken a great toll on his body. Then those long boring years listening to dull speeches in the Senate, and his dramatic loss of the Presidential election all have taken their toll elsewhere. As a young man, the son of an illustrious and powerful US Admiral, McCain seems tohave led a privileged life on the Naval bases where he was raised. Perhaps his status in that closed society fostered some bad habits. Whether ignoring preflight fueling recommendations and then having to ditch his trainer plane in the Gulf of Mexico , or disobeying orders and flying into a cloud of flack over Hanoi to get shot down....McCain seems to have been able to break rules and then been excused for these infractions.

BUT THAT WAS ONLY A SIDESHOW. THE REAL STORY IS WHY MCCAIN WAS ANGRY

MCCAIN WANTS TO START A WAR AND MONTENEGRO IS PART OF THE PLAN

The Arizona war hawk's ire was raised to a fever pitch when Senator Rand Paul objected to a call by Mc Cain (and two others) for a unanimous "yea" vote to support the advancement of the tiny Balkan nation of Montenegro to NATO membership. Rand Paul wisely objected and cast a "nay" vote preventing the proposal's passage. McCain's voice was said to quaver in uncontrolled anger when he addressed the Senate as he attacked Paul--who had left the Chamber after the vote. For the second time he claimed that Paul was "working for Putin". What caused Mc Cain's gorge to rise to almost choke him? It was the frustration of the Arizona Senator's long-held and persistent desire to send the young men and women of this nation to fight and die in another of McCain's perpetual wars. That war goal was at least temporarily compromised and stymied by Senator Paul whom the old Senator turned on and attacked viciously. He will fight viciously to send others to fight and die.

WHY RAND PAUL IS RIGHT AND MCCAIN WRONG

Simply stated: In spite of what old war hawks like McCain claim, we can not afford to take on Montenegro. The continued expansion of NATO is fool's goal. Who would do the fighting for Montenegro? The Swedish? The Germans? The Italians? All of whom owe money to NATO. No! The vast majority of responsibility falls on the shoulders of the American troops and their folks at home. The Americans shoulder the majority of the burden and we can not afford it anymore.

Our nation with its $19 trillion debt can not afford to adequately defend itself AND provide adequate medical care, repair its crumbling infrastructure, provide a meaningful safety net for its infirm and indigent. How can we extend military protection to insignificant Montenegro when we can not afford to take care of our own. The recent budget in which Mr. Trump has proposed drastic cutbacks to domestic programs in an attempt to trim the deficit and cut the debt should be reviewed by Mr McCain and the other war hawks. How can we ask our own citizenry to sacrifice in face of our financial situation and then place ourselves in jeopardy abroad by offering to extend our NATO protection to tiny Montenegro (which sent a complement of some 40 troops to the NATO command). What do we get for our offer of protection? We are offering NATO inclusion to a small nation with less than half a million inhabitants, about the size of Delaware, situated in an area of the world plagued by instability and with a population that is largely pro-Russian and decidedly uncertain of its desire to enter NATO. This is not a good deal! I expect our President to veto the idea.

If we are so ready to ask our own citizenry to sacrifice their well being...as per the sharp cutbacks in the proposed Trump budget...how can we afford to be so openhanded with a policy of military expansion which places our troops in potential harms way in the Balkans with nothing to gain and much to loose.

As for the politically unstable, weakened Democrats who support this foolish NATO proposal with McCain...they are only poking a finger into the eye of Mr. Trump, foolishly attempting to bait him for his "admiration" of Mr. Putin. They are willing to hurt their own citizens, weaken their military and undermine their stated principles only to embarrass or delegitimize their own, legitimately elected President.
